Formal assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder
Our standard assessment package would involve two main appointments. One to collect information about you/ your child’s developmental history and background information. The other is a clinical observation to look at your/their patterns of interaction in more detail and uses a standardised measure. We have adopted a new and innovative assessment called the BOSA (Brief Observation of Symptoms of Autism), which can be administered via video link and from the comfort of your own home. We also have the option of administering this in our clinic, which is based in Paignton Devon.

When you make contact with us, we will talk to you about whether we would recommend additional assessments, such as assessment of language or cognitive skills.
Autism Assessment UK pride themselves in offering assessments which are multi-professional, including a mixture of; Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and independent Paediatricians. We follow NICE guidance for standards of Autism assessment. This option includes detailed reports and recommendations tailored to you.

90 Minute Consultation with a Clinical Psychologist

This service is suitable for people who wish to explore whether their strengths, difficulties and life experiences may be indicative of an autism profile. This can be helpful when deciding whether or not to proceed with a full diagnostic assessment. At the end of the appointment we can discuss whether or not what we see/ hear may fit that of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Please note that this service is not a formal diagnostic assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder. It can however be helpful to guide families in the different treatment options available to them.

Our consultation service is also suitable for people who are not wishing to explore whether they have Autism, but would like a safe space to explore what factors may have led to and/or be maintaining psychological and emotional distress. At the end of this appointment, we will talk you through a shared psychological formulation and suggest ways forward.
